Attendance
Attending school every day is important.
Regular school attendance is important for learning, building friendships, and feeling connected to school. Students who come to school every day stay more involved, understand their lessons better, and feel more comfortable with their teachers and classmates.
Coming to school daily helps students keep up with what they are learning and avoid falling behind. Good attendance habits early on can lead to better success over time.
Attendance is counted by minutes:
- Elementary School: 405 minutes per day
- Middle and High School: 415 minutes per day
Arriving late or leaving early means students miss important learning time, and those minutes add up. Every absence—excused or unexcused—means lost learning.
Nebraska State law requires children ages 6 through 17 to attend school. Families, schools, and the community all play a role in supporting good attendance. Our district has a policy that promotes daily attendance while providing students and families with support and resources to address attendance barriers. Parents and guardians should let the school know as soon as possible if their child will be absent and reach out if they need help with attendance concerns.
