Biography

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Bowen and I am one of the counselors here at Gomez Heritage.  I have been at the school since it opened, you may remember my previous role as the Physical Education teacher.  I am excited to work with students again one on one this year!  I am always available if you have a concern or need, my number is (402) 898-2801 ext. 1012.

Academics

School counselors actively promote leadership, collaboration, student advocacy and systemic change through evidence-based and research informed practice.  School counselors focus on improving school connectedness to assist students and families in overcoming barriers that are impacting the students' success.  The purpose of our school counseling program is to support students' preparation for college, career, and life.  Students will work on a variety of social, personal, and academic skills in counseling this year.  Students will receive a guidance lesson from me once every ten day cycle.  Students will be supported to: develop positive life skills, advance on grade level, set goals to achieve academic success, and transition to middle school.  We are also starting a program at Gomez that introduces college to every child in elementary.  Each classroom at Gomez this year is a different four year college- we encourage you to ask your students about which college their classroom is representing this year!  Every Friday is "wear your college colors" day and we encourage students to wear the colors of that college, for example, Iowa Hawkeyes would be yellow and black. Any questions, please see your classroom teacher or Mrs. Ascherl or myself!
